MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia expects its 2026 grain harvest to reach about 140 million tonnes as farmers move into the final stage of the season. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said growers had already collected more than 126 million tonnes of grain. They had threshed about 90% of the planted grain area by October 2. Officials also expect the country to harvest around 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

The latest figures are up from early September, when Russia had harvested 113.5 million tonnes of grain. Oilseed collection has now reached about 15 million tonnes. Farmers in the organized sector have also gathered nearly 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a similar volume of vegetables. Russian officials said yields across most crop categories are running above their 2025 levels as field work continues across producing regions.
Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has issued a slightly higher 2026 grain forecast of about 141.8 million tonnes. Rosstat reported a 2025 harvest of 141.2 million tonnes on its stated territorial basis. At an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut reported a 2025 total of 144.6 million tonnes. She described that result as the third-largest grain harvest in the country’s history. Russia harvested almost 130 million tonnes of grain in 2024.
Harvest campaign enters final stage
Patrushev said the pace of harvesting supports the government’s current expectations for major crops. The Russian government has also maintained support measures for agricultural producers during the autumn field season. Authorities allocated about 10 billion rubles to subsidize transportation from major grain-producing regions. The government also suspended grain export duty payments through the end of 2026 and capped export duties on vegetable oil and meal at August levels.
Winter sowing has passed the halfway point of the planned area, according to the government. Officials have asked regional authorities to closely track planting progress, with particular attention to winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry earlier said farmers planned to sow more than 19 million hectares with winter crops. Officials have also stressed the need to keep farms supplied with machinery, seed, fertilizer and other resources required for seasonal work.
Grain output stays near recent highs
Russia’s recent grain harvests have remained large by historical standards. The country produced about 143 million tonnes of grain in 2023. Its 2022 harvest reached a record 157.676 million tonnes. The current 140 million-tonne forecast sits below both of those totals. It remains above the almost 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. Officials have not yet announced the final 2026 grain figure because harvesting remains underway in several producing areas.
The current campaign also reflects the scale of Russia’s wider crop production. Alongside grain, the government expects oilseed output to reach about 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers continue to collect vegetables and potatoes as regions complete seasonal field work. Officials are also advancing winter planting for the next agricultural cycle while farmers finish the remaining 2026 harvest. The government has not announced a final grain total, and the 140 million-tonne figure remains its current projection.
